this site has a major racism problem but there’s something especially fucked up about the way Asian, especially East Asian people and media are treated. there’s just no self awareness or critical thought on the part of Anglospheric people who go around calling Asian media ‘inherently’ homophobic or pedophilic, or claim that most media and culture that comes out of East Asian countries is either cringy or perverted or both. has anyone else noticed this? because I’ve been thinking about this for a long damn time, and uhh. huh
been thinking about this post all day, there’s a reason i only has like 200 notes i feel, the same reason that most posts that point out that white westerners (typically americans) have zero right to interpret a culture they did not grow up in, but constantly do, with wanton and brazen arrogance, because they’ve been taught the country they were born in makes them world police.
like anyone applying ‘inherently’ to asia and constantly make judgements on it from the west has zero right. you pale fuckers don’t pull that shit any other foreign country, but because even your progressive media has demonized many non-western governments it demonizes the fucking culture.
even my closest american friends would have no fucking clue how to just ‘be’ in asia. because not everywhere is fucking hong kong or toyko (since westerners seem to think china and japan are the only examples) on top of the fact they make every assumption when they have no education or cultural fucking background to make the calls they make
it’s actually fucking insidious because most of the time on tumblr, if you are asian in a group of white people, that’s all you are. i’m lucky to have my friends be ever so much more sensitive reasonable behind whenever they ask questions, but the straight up assumptions ‘asians are pervs’ ‘asians are homophobic’ ‘asians hate women more than whites’ is typical bougie liberal bullshit. it’s the same kind of critcism applied to muslim people, black people, anyone you can ‘other’ - the difference is for woke points people are often doing it just to impress their other white american friends by pulling judgements of a country out of their ass
it is an insidious, more sublte racism in the fact that the west has consistently protrayed asia as ‘inferior’ to the west, or when that became no longer true due to china as an economic superpower and the money flowing into east asia in general as a ‘threat’. we have always been othered if we do not fit a model minority profile, and that goes for the left AND the right (but the right far more obviously).
just…get some fucking perspective, you cowboy fuckers, and quit trying to pretend you can judge without knowing any aspect of the culture or history. this is why asian people critique their own cultures, not so some fucking white ass shut in 20 year old on tumblr can come in and misinterpret or make up 100′s of years of asian culture.
